The Foundation de Monaco participates in a round table discussion on ecology to mark the centenary of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris

The Foundation de Monaco participated in the first round table discussion of a series entitled ‘The City of the Future', launched by the director of the Colegio de España, Mr Justo Zambrana Pineda, to mark the centenary of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP), which is being celebrated this year.This first meeting on ecology was held on World Environment Day (5 June), on the theme of ‘Pour un modèle du vivre ensemble qui contribue à l’équilibre de la planète’ (Coexistening while maintaining planetary energy balance). Ms Martine Garcia Mascarenhas, Director of the Foundation de Monaco, took this opportunity to reiterate the Principality's commitment to tackling climate change and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, with 2025 marking the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement. She also emphasised the key role the construction sector plays in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the creation of the Mission for Energy Transition in 2016.Two representatives of the Prince's Government, Ms Pauline Caillouet, operations manager for the Public Buildings Maintenance Office, and Mr Raphaël Carossi, energy specialist at the Mission for Energy Transition, took part in the round table discussion moderated by Ms. Stéphanie Demback-Dijoux, director and training consultant in organisational transformation and deputy mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The participants engaged in a detailed discussion about the innovative solutions implemented in the Principality, including the BD2M (Mediterranean Sustainable Buildings in Monaco) initiative, the installation of photovoltaic panels that integrate well with the architectural heritage, such as at the Lycée Albert Ier, centralised technical management models in communal buildings such as schools, and MonaCUBE's educational competition to reduce energy consumption in buildings.Three main issues were discussed in front of mainly CIUP residents:
‘Renovating without compromising: old buildings face the transition challenge’: a topical issue for the Foundation de Monaco, which will see the completion of the CIUP's Recovery Plan and Energy Renovation Programme by September, following three years of work.
‘The park: biodiversity, landscapes and climate': the CIUP occupies an eco-friendly 34-hectare site with a rich landscape heritage that forms a haven for biodiversity.
‘Uses: conduct, governance and commitment’: crucial issues for the 12,000 international students and researchers welcomed to the campus and its 47 halls of residence each year.
The conclusions of this round table session will be incorporated into the CIUP's 'centenary declaration', which will draw the official programme to a close in December.

The Embassy of Monaco in Germany convenes its Honorary Consuls in Vienna.

On the joint initiative of H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano, Ambassador of Monaco to Germany (also accredited to Austria and Poland), and Mr Christian Dorda, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Vienna, the Embassy of Monaco held its regular consular meeting on 30 May 2025 in the Austrian capital.These meetings always prove very worthwhile, as they provide an opportunity for friendly and informative discussions on the latest developments in the Principality and its bilateral relations with these three countries while enabling the Embassy to outline its strategic vision for the coming year.The intense political climate (Germany's snap elections, a new government in Austria and the presidential elections in Poland) sparked interesting discussions on the political, social and economic situation.In addition, the trip provided an opportunity for delegates to meet with the German International Club of Monaco since around thirty of its members also travelled to the Austrian capital. The delegates benefited from a comprehensive cultural programme, including tours of historic imperial and royal courts, visits to Schönbrunn Palace and the Liechtenstein Palace, and a performance of Verdi's Opera Il Trovatore at the legendary Vienna State Opera House. The trip also featured a gala dinner in the Marble Hall of the iconic Hotel Sacher.

Monaco’s Official Development Assistance benefited 3.5 million people between 2022 and 2024

Monaco’s Department of International Cooperation summed up its strategic plan for 2022–2024 with one key figure: 3.5 million direct beneficiaries. This committed effort also contributes to the Principality’s international standing.On Friday 6 June, the Department of International Cooperation presented the key outcomes of the Strategic Cooperation Plan 2022–2024 to department heads within the Monegasque Government. During this period, the Prince’s Government mobilised €74.1 million in official development assistance (ODA) to help combat poverty. Monaco gives €637 per capita in ODA each year, making it one of the world’s most charitable nations, truly a “small country with a big heart”, as the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon described it in 2013.Monaco targets its ODA, focusing on 12 countries across three regions*, to boost the impact of the action taken. More than 75% of the ODA was directed towards eight least developed countries, in line with the United Nations’ target in this area.Accounting for a third of resources and 2.4 million beneficiaries, health continues to dominate Monaco’s international cooperation efforts, which have supported capacity-building for health stakeholders, as well as work to combat female, childhood and adolescent mortality.Initiatives aimed at improving food and nutritional security have reached half a million direct beneficiaries, including through work on sustainable agriculture and the “School Feeding” programme to set up school canteens.Education and child protection projects have also benefited 500,000 people, with a priority focus on educating girls.Support for access to decent work has helped nearly 100,000 people in their pursuit of economic empowerment, improving employability, vocational training and access to entrepreneurship, particularly for women and young people.The most vulnerable groups – children, women and girls, people with disabilities, displaced people and refugees – are at the core of all activities. Conservation of the planet and its resources are also taken into account, with an approach that prioritises sustainable projects.Finally, the period in question was marked by unprecedented levels of crisis due to climate change, conflict and natural disasters. The Principality responded to 53 emergency appeals issued by the United Nations and international NGOs.* Southern and East Africa (South Africa, Burundi, Lesotho and Madagascar); the Sahel (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Senegal); North Africa/Mediterranean (Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia).

H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco elected Chair of the Meeting of States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination

H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco, Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been elected Chair of the 31st Meeting of States Parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD). The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the Convention and the 30th anniversary of its ratification by the Principality.The purpose of the meeting, held on 2 June 2025, was to elect nine new members of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)*. Composed of 18 independent experts, the Committee meets three times per year to examine reports by the States Parties and issue recommendations on the promotion and implementation of the Convention.The uncontested election of H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco as Chair demonstrates the commitment of the Prince’s Government to defending human rights. *Newly elected members of the Committee are from the following countries: Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Panama, Poland, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, Togo and Turkey. They join members on the Committee since 2023 from the following countries: China, Greece, Jamaica, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and South Africa.
